thanks to Pat and everyone for all the help.i'm going backwards now. The lever seems a little touchy and the engine isnt bogging down as bad. got a couple minor thing to finish. the sad thing is is i'll probably be selling this one too, since i'm laid off i can't afford to have 8 tractors.:)

I also had the same problem with my AC 721S after adjustments.I got the tractor to stop while in gear and shuttle in neutral, brake band needed to have more adjustments.Right now I have 13 complete tractors in Simplicity & Allis Chalmers,7 - 19 hp. Karl

Guess I should have been a little more explicit. What did you find as the problem that kept it from going in reverse? Pat

low and behold! a loose nut benid the wrench! i have acguired another 3410 s, i compared and checked all adjustments with the book. evidently, the more wear on them, these measurments in the book do not apply. i kept adjusting the "short belt" and the brake band. the first time i got in in reverse, the shuttle lever was just past nuetral. so i adjusted the linkage again. now i have to have the lever all the way in reverse. it screams now, i was out playing with the plow yesterday. i'll attach a picture thanks again! tommorrow i'll start on a 2110.
