Sickle bar attachments

As a newcommer into the Simplicity tractor community I have been suprised and dissapointed to not find sickle bar attachments for new lawn and garden tractors. Is the result of our brave new world of lawers and liability issues? That is a sad answer is true. The more important question is can existing sickle bars be mounted on newer Simplicity lawn and garden tractors without extensive mods and fabrication?

Hi Tom,

I'm not sure about the lawyer thing, but even in the Ag business the Sickle Bar is antiquated. If you've ever used a Bush Hog/rotary cutter you'll find it much faster than the sickle ever was. Sickle Bars are prone to more maintenance too. Probably the only new model that could run one would be the Sovereign, as there were sickles made for this frame in the past. Try the Wanted page here. If it were me, I’d suggest the Bush Hog GT-42. It’s self powered and works just like the big ones. You’ll run circles around a sickle bar or a DR Brush Mower.[A href='http://www.bushhog.com/specbook/pg7.html'][img src='http://www.bushhog.com/specbook/pg7-gt42.gif'][/a]

Looks like you could do some damage with that thing. I suspect it would also do some damage to my wallet... I'll keep me eye out for a used one. Thanks for the info.
