LandLord B&S Carb. Gas leaks (alot)

I rebuilt the 10 HP carb on my 1973 LandLord B&S engine. It now leaks more than it did. I set the float the the "standards" listed in the rebuild kit. Should I instead, bend the float to the position that makes the carb stop leaking when the engine is not running. I currently have a shutoff on my fuel line. Regards, Claude

I had the same problem when I rebuilt a similar carb.Even had the dealer try it once, and it continued to drip after shutdown.Dealer said to put a shutoff in the line ,which fixed the symptom, but not the problem.I finally broke down and bought a new carb, which solved the problem.:D Good luck!

Try checking the float bowl, had a similar problem but a little worse. Your looking for any pinholes in the bowl itself, also if it leaks until the bowl runs out of gas that would be it most likely. Had this problem on a kohler 16hp, someone had hit the bowl with something and caused a small crack. When I tore it apart and cleaned all of the deposits out of it it would leak out until the bowl ran out of fuel. Hope this helps with the problem. If not I wouldn't know where to send you.

I had a 10Hp that ran fine, but when I shut it off, it would drip for about five minutes, then stop. Never figured out why. B/S even had a piece of felt in the bottom of the inlet to let the fuel seep through. I replaced this carb with one from the original 7.25Hp engine that is still running fine with no problems. It took some modifications to get the smaller carb hooked up on the 10Hp.

Last spring I dug deep and paid the $22.50 for an carb kit. My engine runs great but still leaks. The new float valve for my 12 hp showed up with a rubber tip instead of nickol plated brass. I had hoped this would solve the problem. Now I just shut the gas off. I never thought to ask the dealer if they could grind the valve seat back to spec. and reset the float. Maybe some one sells the tool. Its possible that this could be done with rubbing compound and an old float valve? Just another hair brained scheme to make a bad thing worse by: M.Spetz
