hi - did some research into the external alternator option on cckb engines and found out alot - downloaded the full cckb manual covering all versions of the cckb off a link from this site and found more info about it - there are a number of external alternator option available for those with bad magnets or those wishing to get rid of the stator and regulator - i found out some older railcars used cckb motors and none of them used an internal system - all had external alternators stock - more info is available thru les king motor cars ( www.leskingmotorcars.com/kingengine.html) - if you research railcars you can find pictures of cckb motors with external alternators mounted - he has available a alternator for sale that will work and can link you to people with the mounting bracket info and such so i am told talking to a railcar guy i e-mailed - just thought this might help some people and give others different options for repairing cckb motors - good luck

Jason, My understanding from the Onan manual is that the external alternator runs off the flywheel ring gear and is mounted opposite the starter. I really question whether there would be room on a 620/720 or Simplicity Powermax between the oilpan and the frame for this alternator. Have you seen one of these?
