Hydraulic Lift for AC 914 Hydro

I would like to swap the hydraulic lift from a Simp 7116 Hydro with the mechanical (armstrong) lift on an AC 914 Hydro. It appears to be a simple swap, but I am concerned since the Hydros in the 12 and 14 HP tractors are a different part # than the Hydros in the 16 HP and up. Also, the hydraulic lift was not available as an option for the 914, only electric lift was available as an option. Why? The 7116 was probably manufactured in 81 or 82 due to 81 manufacture date on the 16 HP Briggs (assuming its the original engine.) The 914 was purchased in 83, so they are very similar. The hydros appear identical except that the 7116 has a spin on filter located forward of the hydro in addition to the small spin on filter on the left side. Is there hydraulic pressure and flow available at the tap-ins on the hydro in the 914? I need some help from an RBT savvy member. Thanks.

Who knows? Probably wanted to offer hydro lift only on the more expensive tractors. The hydro pumps on tractors with hydro lifts have an additional relief valve. If you want to do the job right, swap hydro pumps also.

Dutch, Thanks for responding. I'm not real interested in moving the hydro pump to the 914. The hydro in the 914 works very well. The hydro in the 7116 is not in prime condition and is the reason I'm interested in moving the hydraulic lift to the 914. I picked the 7116 up at auction with a nice 48-inch deck and complete vac-collector system. I drained the hydro of only about a pint of fluid!! I refilled it with 2 1/2 quarts. I have no idea how long it operated with minimal fluid. It works now, but is very sloppy at low ground speeds....does not "stop" in neutral position but continues to roll in the same direction until it rolls to a stop or lever is moved to the opposite direction. Sooo, what are the risks/disadvantages to operating the hydraulic lift with the current 914 hydro apparently without the additional relief valve? Thanks again, Darryl

Darryl, I did this same thing about four months ago. It works fine, since Dutch pointed out about the relief valve.Just swap the relief valve from the donor tractor. It is mounted between the two steel hydro lift lines on top of unit. Aaron

AAron, After Dutch mentioned the relief valve, I studied the parts breakdown again and saw that some relief valves were on some pumps and not on others. My next step was to check the hydros and move the valve from the donor unit. Your post confirms I'm on the right track. This should work. Thanks for sharing your experience. Darryl
