Simplicity Model 728

I just mounted a 11 HP Tecumseh in this 728. From prior questions people have told me that the tranny can probably handle it. Now here's what I need: - why does my unit have two female "plug-ins" on the left side of the console? One black, one red? - what size is the correct drive sheave on the crankshaft and does it go above abe or below the sheave for the mower deck? Many other questions but that's enough for now. Thank you in advanc, Bruce

Hi, Regarding the tranny, The load on the tranny is related to the weight and traction of the rear tires. Typically only a couple of horsepower are used in driving the tractor and the rest for the mower. If you had 100 hp at 3600 in the front and hooked to a tree and the wheels were spinning there would be no more strain on the tranny than if you had 8 hp at 3600 rpm in front and the wheels were spinning. Now if you pile a bunch of weight on the back new problem, but don't worry about the tranny over a couple of hp. Good luck, Al

Sounds like someone did their own customizing with the "plugins". Check on the inside and see where they go - I assume they are electrical connections of some sort? Engine trans pulley goes close to the frame - above the mower pulley. Parts book list OD as 2.88.
