Not moving B-10 early help!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone my B-10 quit moving today and I'm wondering if anyone can help me find the problem and fix it as it is my only plow trac right now. The symptoms are won't move in any gear even though the tubes coming out of the transmission are turning. Any thoughts? Thanks, Matthew Snyder

Check your differential, you may have sheared the carrier keys or roll pins holding the hub to the gear.

is that the round thing on the tube on the right side of the transmission? Is so how do you get the collar off of the end to get to it?

I see now (after looking at some pics) that that is the diff. but I still need to know how to get to it and if there is anything I need to be aware off when I take it apart

Here's a look at the internals, with all but two roll pins between the gear and hub sheared. I have since fixed it, and have new keys for attaching the carrier to the axle tube.

Hi all thanks for the help so far. It was the keys all of them were completely sheared off and some had disintegrated. I got them out of the gear but how do I get them out of the hub? Also are they just a standard roll pin (tension pin) or are they special only from Simplicity? Also the hub has alot of grooves and scratches in it from the keys, will these affect it when I replace the pins? Thanks again

I used an EZ out to get the roll pins out. I also tried using a tap then pulling them out with the tap. It took a while and you have to be careful doing it. I cleaned the faces off by gently holding them up to a bench top belt sander. It takes the rough spots out without removing too much material. Here's how it looked cleaned up.

okay i'll try that. Are the pins just a rooll pin? If so does anyone know the dimensions so that I can get them and get them in. thanks.

I used regular roll pins to fix mine. Best bet is take it to the hardware store and match it up. Take your best guess at the length, if they're a little long they'll stick out of the gear where you can take the excess off with the sander trick mentioned above. Do it slowly so you won't overheat them and ruin the temper of the pins.

A trick to make the roll pins slightly stronger is put a second, smaller diameter roll pin inside the original diameter roll pin after it has been installed.

Thanks for all the help guys I got the pins in and everything back together. It seems to be working even better than before, especially since I torqued the adjusting screws to 25 ft. lbs. Thanks again, Matthew
