Is it "grinding the gears" when you try to shift? If so, try readjusting the clutch and brake following the procedure linked below. Make sure you follow it "step-by-step" including the correct position of the Variable Speed lever. It's a time consuming adjustment (30-45 minutes, maybe), because you have to keep starting and stopping the engine -- don't move the variable speed lever with the engine off, or the clutch in.... Note that you can view and print the "diagram" but you should have your computer in 800 X 600 resolution (or higher) for best results... A very important adjustment is the belt "brake" or stop. This is the tab that is attached to the idler "clutch" pulley. When adjusted correct this stops the belt from "freewheeling" when you depress the clutch. Good Luck. MikeES
