Wards Squire 6

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody, New kid on the block here. I got a Wards Squire 6 this summer for $25 bucks. (pic's to come later) The engine was blown and not knowing it was something to keep, it got thrown out. That little guy's got a 10hp Briggs in it now. Fit like a charm, no modes to make. I'm not sure of the year but I'll look up the s/n and let you guys help me out there. I do have one question. Yeah, its about paint. Mine has been brush painted grey and white. I think the Wards were gold and white from the factory. Did the stripe on the hood come black with two smaller strips in white?

Hi Paul, does your wards look like this? I tried to find an original pic., to get the paint job, closer to original, but, couldn't come up with one. Colors, are fairly close though. Used MM, Gold, and shell white.

After I get home I see its a Garden Mark Squire 6 by Wards. Ive got a few numbers I hope you guys can help me with the year. (mfgs #SIM-990321) (serial number 56X-001971) (artical #89-1249) Also if the stripe on the hood should be black w/white stripes either side or the other way around. I've heard Simplicity might have reversed the color of the stripes on the Wards models.

My 61 Wards Squire does not have original paint, but when I got it, it was orange like the Simplicities. Same color underneath hood and under the tractor. Most times when they are re-painted, there are overlooked spots underneath. These are good places to check for original colors.

Sounds like a neat old tractor. Did you get the deck with it?

Thanks for the info. Yes your right, it is hard to find color pics. of these older models. I've got a couple of pictures of it in my personal info. Not sure how to get them here yet. They are from the first day home.

Thanks Art for moving my pictures over. Once it's explained to me how to do it, it doesn't sound to hard. Say, Rod how did you come about finding the year of your Squire? Also my mower deck has three very small blades. Can I still get blades? Oh, I also meant to say that the tires are still the old Wards Riverside knobies. I might keep them on. It would look neet with some agg/tires.

Paul, I am assuming that the year the original B/S engine was built is the same year that the tractor was built. B/S build date is in the serial number. Since I had a 61 engine I assume it is a 61 tractor, could be 62. I'm not an originality fanatic. I like my tractors for what they are, not what they were. My tractor is a long way from original. I'll post a picture as soon as I can get one edited down small enough.
