Montgomery Wards + Chipper Shredder

I just added four B/W pages from the 1962 Montgomery Wards catalog that shows the LawnTrac (WonderBoy) and Squire (725 Landlord), plus attachments. Couple pieces of trivia: 1) I included a picture of the check where Allis-Chalmers bought Simplicity for $18,621,179.33 in 1965. That was a LOT of money in 1965.... 2) The second page of attachments shows a chipper/shredder available (called a compost grinder) for the Squire. It also states that it ships from the factory near Milwaukee. Does that mean the Simplicity manufactured a chipper/shredder for these tractors? I had never thought so, but why would Simplicity be shipping an attachment manufactured by someone else? I had heard of an aftermarket one (MacKissic ??) that was sold by Simplicity dealers, but I haven't seen either a Simplicity-made one or an aftermarket one in any of the Simplicity material I've seen. They often included other aftermarket attachments, but I haven't seen "proof" of a chipper shredder anywhere else.... Enjoy! I would be interested in a chipper/shredder to fit a Simplicity. Let me know if anything interesting shows up. Roy

When I bought my 7119 (going on two years ago), I called Simplicity regarding whether a chipper/shredder was available. I was told McKissic had built them for Simplicity. They are still in business. I called McKissic (they are in eastern PA as I recall), and they told me they were no longer available, but some old timey shops around that area might have one. I was never able to locate one, and finally bought a stand alone chipper from Home Depot.

10-13-99 Kent, Just cruised through the Wards information. The Squire is just like my B-1 (except the hood design) and almost exactly like an early Simplicity 700 or 725 I sold to a friend some years ago. The attachments/implements are also like the ones I have for my B-1. I have the tiller, snow plow, 42" mower deck, and a 10" Brinley moldboard plow for my B-1. My friend is going to return the Simplicity to me for free. He has a sickle bar mower if I can also con him out of it. Will let you know once I have my hands on the goodies. Sure wish I could buy implements, especially the chipper/shredder, at the 1962 prices! Later, Roy

Whether you call it a chipper shredder or a composter, it would sure be useful around here! Haven't seen any in the club classifieds.
