7016H??? Engine

Recommended Posts

I recently aquired an older Simplicity tractor. As far as I can tell the Manufacturer number is 1690006. The original engine is very tired. I happen to have an 18 horse OHV V-twin engine laying around and was wondering if it would be worth the hassle of putting it in or am I better off just rebuilding the origional... any help/comments would be greatly appreciated

Hi, If your 18 is a Command it will work without an adaptor plate. If it is an overhead camm, you will need an adaptor plate which we sell. I put a 25 Command in a 912 AC without too much difficulty. The bolt holes came out in the edge of the stiffining ribs in the bottom of the frame and I had to make some little wedge shaped semicircles to weld in the ribs to get a flat area all around the bolts. You need to take a hole saw and cut an access in the left side of the frame for oil drain. Muffler available from Simplicity. You also need to cut the sides of the frame down some. We have a kit of parts to do this in a 7100 using the 18 Command or the 18 twin cam. The 7016 may be a little more complicated as it is shorter to the grille and you may have muffler clearance problems. I have put Vangards in these tractors and they work very well, I am sure the Command will work anything is possible if you want it bad enough. We also sell a kit to take of the electrical porblem of the Extra solenoid draw of the solenoid actuated starter if the version of athe engine you have uses one. If this has a Briggs now you don't need to modify the wiring for the electronic ignition. If it has a Kohler with battery ignition, you will need to change the ignition switch and some wiring to use the new engine. We have a kit that solves this problem and converts the tractor without having to change any ignition wiring. Just 3 wires to hook up and the old ignition wiring controls the new engine. We are just getting started in manufacturing these items and what we would have might not be packaged so pretty yet but work. We are looking at kits to repower the 9020s and Vangard kits for the 7000 series in addition to the parts kits we are currently putting together to put modern power in the 7100 series. Part of our delay is in getting our instruction sheets done bilingual. [converted to Spanish] If you have any questions e-mail me, or if you need any parts for this call me on our 800 number and we can help you out and send them to you. How deep the new division of our company gets in kits for individual applications will depend on how much demand there is for each product. It takes a lot of work to document the process and cover most of the bases so you don't have to chase all over and chase down a lot of pieces. The electrical kits work on any equipment and engine and will be universally available. Good luck, Al

The crankshaft height is lower but I can make a spacer for it. The engine isn't a Command as far as I know... One of my biggest concerns is the torque ratings of the engines, the v-twin I'm guessing would have less torque because of the shorter stroke. The only real problem I have right now is getting the driveshaft to bolt to the flywheel the pattern is about a quarter inch off, and the center of the v-twin engine's flywheel is recessed in to the housing about 2"
