Skip, Have you checked out any of the garden tractor pulling clubs on the net. We even have a link to one of them on the yahoo club page. Cub Cadets seem to be one of the favorite tractors for pulling. The cubs have no belts in there drive train but do have an automotive type clutch. I think JD is also high on the list.

One of the mechanics at the dealer where I buy my parts(Streator Farm Mart, Streator IL) pulls a 7012 Simplicity six speed. He has the Kohler putting out about 30 horsepower. He says that his problem is not power but control, he can't keep the tractor in bounds. As Tim stated, most of the pullers are Cub Cadets(about 90%), due to the favorable drive train. My neighbor in Indiana pulls with old Massey's, which have the same drive train as a Cub Cadet. I would love to see more AC pullers.

Tim thanks for the reply. I have heard that of Cub Cadet but was thinking of using one of my A/C 710s or JD 140 as I use my 916 and Massey 1200 for cutting

We have a fellow in our club who is building a 3414 to pull. He plans to install a 14 HP Kohler and pull on our stock classes. This will be 1050 LB and 1250 LB weight class. I am interested to see how he will gear the tractor. We pull on 23x10.50x12 tires and allow the tread to be cut for maximun traction. I have seen some A C tractors pull and they are tough. Most of our guys pull Cubs but have some Wheel Horse and Sears/Roper tractors as well. I will let you know how he does this summer.

Up here in Wisconsin we have a number of AC pulling in the stock and stock altered class and generally win! The belt drive works fine (with the ablility to change ratios) for these classes. The B series, 700 and 900 AC and Simplicity equivalent work, but I have not seen any of the 300 or 400 series ACs (weaker frame?). I pull a Simplicity 3314V with a Briggs and beat Cubs. A friend pulls a B-212 with a 16hp Kohler and has won some national pulls. Also many modified single cylinder Kohlers running alcohol get 40 to 50hp in Mod and Pro Stock catagories.
