Guest Posted October 25, 1999 I had my starter rewound, when I attepted to replace my starter, I could not get a response. I tried the starter on another tractor to verify that it was working. I checked the wiring diagram on this site and realized it had been wired wrong all along, but it worked? I rewired it correctly with no response. Can I bypass the voltage regulator or will it cause problems? I can get a new VR but I am not sure that it's neccesary. What is it's purpose? Can I check it somehow to see if it works? What about the starter, is there a way to check it without installing it?
tej 1 Posted October 25, 1999 Wally, You can run the starter with a set of jumper cables but if you tried it in another tractor you already know it works. Can you try the voltage regulator off that other tractor? If the tractor is now wired like the diagram and all parts are good it should work. The voltage regulator may have been damaged if the tractor was wired incorrectly. You need the voltage regulator to keep the generator from over charging the battery. Guest Posted October 26, 1999 It sounds like it could be starter solinoid problems , check the solinoid with a test lite to make sure it is good.:Rodpuller
