Mower Deck Servicing

When prepping the mower deck for another season of use it is a good idea to remove the top belt covers - grass likes to collect in here and should be cleaned out. Examine the arbor bearings and idler at this time by unloading the belt (carefully "twist" it off a pulley or release the tension spring) and spin each arbor by hand listening for any "growling" noises. Check the idler for the same and make sure the mounting pivots freely - this may have to be disassembled and cleaned. Check the belt for cracks and wear spots. Clean the housing top and bottom and check for cracks that will need to be welded. Before sharpening the blades see that they all line up with one another tip-to-tip on the same plane - within reason - if more than 1/4" check for bent blade or housing.
