Greg, I'm equipped in my shop to handle problems like that. My repair is guaranteed and only costs $295.00 including material. Email me for an appointment. OR... Buy and install an inline fuel shut-off valve. $7.00 :) Steve

The fuel pump check valves might not be holding back fuel flow. Best advise do above, new fuel pump or not.

I must agree with the comments to replace the fuel pump. I have a Kohler KT 19 that use to fill the crankcase with gas. I installed a new fuel pump and rebuilt carb and presto no fuel leak into the crank case. I also did two complete oil changes after run the engine for 30 minutes to get all the gas out of the crankcase. Good luck, Tim

You can by-pass the fuel pump on the 917 and it will work just fine. The gas tank sits higher than the carb.

I don't know the exact setup on your engine but I also had a similar problem on my 4041. It seemed like dirt was getting into the float valve and causing it to leak. I would change the fuel filter and the problem would go away for awhile then return. One day I was looking at a welder with a similar Onan engine and noticed that there was no fuel return line to the tank. The fuel pump was just dead-headed into the carb. So, I removed the return line on mine and have not had a problem since. I am not sure why this solved the problem. Maybe the higher line pressure helps to keep dirt cleared from the float valve. Anyone know the advantages/disadvantages of having a return line?

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
