AC Big Ten Deck bearings.

I need to replace the Deck bearings on my Big Ten. Can I do this without a press? I have the 6 bearings but have not attempted to dismantle the deck. Any insight to this proceedure would be appreciated. Thanks

I have done the job twice on two different decks. One from a '63 gardenmark, the other on an AC 710. I replaced all the bearings in both decks without the use of a press. I used a large socket that fit the outer race and tapped it into position. I have had good luck so far with both decks. I keep them greased and the blades sharp. Other than that I used common sense and a good diagram of the deck. As I took a housing apart I placed the bushings, bearings and whatever else came out of there in numbered order. Good luck. JH

I'll have to agree with John,^ I've done dozens of deck bearings over the years and while a press would have been nice I've never used one yet...If you are careful you can get it apart with a hammer and punch, holding the spindle housing in a vice. Like John said a big socket that fits the outer bearing race comes in handy to tap the bearings into place.:)
