AC B-10 vintage

Anybody know how to determine the year of manufacture of an Allis B-10? Mine has an aluminum plate behind and under the seat, but it is unreadable. I seem to remember these things having black painted characters, or something like that, but mine is just plain old aluminum with nothing on it. Maybe there are serial #s in other locations on the tractor that I could submit, but I don't know where to look. Maybe it is also possible to I.D. by the engine serial? Mine has a 10hp Briggs & Stratton. Thanks. Randy

Hi Randy, Welcome to the club! I have a Simplicity Landlord 2012 which I think is the same as your B 10 except with a 12 hp Briggs. My dealer thinks it's a 1966, but according to the engine numbers it's a 1967 -- who knows? You should be able to find 3 numbers on the flywheel cover; model, type & code. The first 2 digits of the code indicate the year of mfg. John(ri)

Hi Randy, you can look up your tractor on the X-reference page that "KENT" has so nicely put for us at the SimpleTrACtors site. The chart shows that AC made the B-10 in 1963-64 with either a manual or a electric start but with a 9hp engine. But they also made a B-10 in 1966 with a manual lift it had the 10hp engine and one with the powerlift that had a 11hp engine. Like the last member suggested the #'s can be used off the flywheel cover on the right side of the engine while faceing forward on the seat providing the engine is the original one. But I can't remember how to read the #'s so as to tell the year the engine was made but hopefully someone else can help here or try your dealer. One other place that I have sometimes found #'s is on the left side of the trans housing just behing the axle tube and these show when the trans cover was forged -day-month-year- if your luckey like I have been 3 times out of about 10 tractors. This is the extent of my knowlege but just maybe you will be luckey on the trans cover. Best to all->happyjack<-

Hi, Randy I think I just read this yesterday on the Simplicity history page. The B-10 was the Allis-Chalmers equivalent of the Simplicity 2210 Landlord, which is 10 hp, and was made in either `68 or `69. We have a 2210 which we bought new in March of `69. The "made when?" page says the 2210 is a `68 model year tractor. But the `69 catalog elsewhere on the site shows a 2210 Landlord. So I would look on the "made when?" section for starters and then look around elsewhere on the site. There is tons of info here. Barry
