How far should the stroke be? from center this goes down about a half inch...this doesn't seem right...but not sure what it *should* be. along with the questions in the previous post. The motor is AENR size 3 X 3-1/4 spec# 143970 TIA

The stroke should be 3 1/4",3" is the bore. Form top of head gasket surface to top of piston, when crankshaft is turned by hand. Try to turn crankshaft and see if the piston moves up and down. You could have a broken connecting rod. In my Wisconsin repair manual there is no AENR,there is the following models AE,AEH,AEHS,AEN,AENL,AENS.They are all 9.2hp. Karl

OK from top of stroke to bottom is 1-1/4" from the top of the spark plug hole. The pistons move, there is compression, it sucks in and pushes out, there is some sucking in the exhaust pipe (not right?). It's AENL...misread that. It has acted a few times like it was going to start...then didn't. But it's inconsistent. doesn't seem to have a constant spark...any ideas?
