I have the opportunity to pick up a small allis chalmers cheap. It says 608 on the side of the hood and appears complete minus the engine. Is it worth messing with either as a restoration or saleable parts?

Hi Dan, the 608 is one of the lighter models, with an 8 hp Briggs. If you just want it to mow a fairly small area, and to play around with. And you can get it cheap, depending on the price you may want to buy it. Check link for more info. thanks for the reply. I didn't look at it real close because I didn't want to seem too interested but it looks much older then the one you pictured. Anyway it worked, not looking too close that is, because I'm going to pick it up today for free. I'll try to post a pic and when I go over it here maybe I can find a serial # so this wonderful site I know about can tell me what it is for sure.

haven't had time to check it out yet, but I did pick it up. He threw in a non-running 8 hp briggs an extra deck from a simplicity and a cultivator off god knows what but it appears to mount to a simplicity ( i'll check my baron) that I'm supposed to try on my David Bradley and if it works its $20. Have been considering for a while getting into the used mower business..... maybe this is my start with a half truckload of free "stuff" You know what they say.. "If it's free it's me"

If the tranny is aluminum, forget using it for pulling. It flexes too much under load and will disintegrate.
