Guest Posted November 13, 1999 Need a repalcement for a KOHLER K361QS spec# 23107A for a Simplicity 7018. Has anyone found a compatible replacement in Kohler or Briggs?
Al 6 Posted November 14, 1999 Hi, Hi, The K 361 can be replaced directly by a K341, it will require a new muffler and exhaust adapter. The next problem is that K341s [complete engines] can’t be built any more, EPA regulations. Short blocks are still available for K341s and may still be for your K361.expect them to be in the 750to 1000. range depending on the spec number. If you are looking at a used K341 it must have the right block or it won’t work The engine you need must have "ears" on the bottom of the block and the bolts go down through them into the sump. If you get a block without the ears the sump bolts go up from the bottom and this block won’t work. Most of these engines were used in Cub Cadets, Jacobsons. and Fords. We have re-powered several of these 700AC 7000Sim.tractors with Briggs Vangard 16 and 18 V twins. They make a very nice quiet, smooth, powerful tractors. You either have to change the wiring and ignition switch to work with the solid state ignition, or we manufacture a module that hooks to the coil wire of your present system and to the kill wire of the new engine and ground. Mounts with 1 screw connect 3 wires and the wiring for the ignition is done. The kit sells for 39.95. Then no modifications to tractor wiring are required to adress the ignition changeover problem. If you use a Vangard or the Kohler twin cam you will need an adapter plate to raise the crankshaft to the correct level. Command won’t. On the Vangard you will need a remote oil filter adapter, the booster fan and adapter to hook up the driveshaft to the engine. We have used 2 different exhaust /muffler systems. Both work well. We have these parts. Throttle cables and choke cables need to be changed and an oil pressure light can be installed if desired. I have never put a Kohler twin cam in a 700 series yet and don’t know how easy it would be. I have put them in 900 AC s and 7100 Sim.s, and can supply a kit of parts to put either the Kohler Twin Cam or the Command in these tractors. The 700/7000 series have shorter hoods than the 900/7100 series, I plan to try one this Winter.. I have put the 25hp Command in a 912 AC, and the only problem was clearance of 2 fins on the oil cooler. 20 hps. don’t have the oil cooler. We are expanding the scope of our business to possibly even provide complete kits to re-power these old tractors, hoping to have them close to a bolt in operation with minimum of cutting or welding. Right we are making some kits to solve the electrical changeover and adapter problems. If there is anything we can do to help you just e-mail us. Thanks, AL
Guest Posted November 14, 1999 Any of the Kohler 'K' singles will drop right in to replace that 18hp OHV engine. The flat head singles are K301S (12hp), K321S (14hp), K341S (16hp). The bottom mounts and center line of shaft is the same as the K361. The B&S cast iron singles 30000 and 32000 series will also drop right into yur 7018 but will require different wiring from the Kohler, and different throttle cable. The drive coupling that mounts on the engine flywheel may be different from the Kohler than the B&S (all engines I've delt with have had this coupling so I have not tried to use one from another). Hope this helps, good luck finding one of these engine as they are harder to find all the time. One more thing, I know the new Kohler V-twin will drop into a 7118 (or any 7100 or AC 900) chassis, but I don't know about the 7018. MS
