Kohler Air Filters

Has anyone located a K&N Filter for the OHC Kohlers? I've had nothing but trouble now that I've been using my TracVac. It seems the air flow for the cooling fan on the motor lines up with the intake. So when the dust is stirred up it gets sucked right into the breather and chokes the motor. And the prefilter is a joke, the dust just goes around the poor fitting foam and lands on the element. Any thoughts?

K & N makes a variety of different filters for vents and breathers, as well as motorcycles that may come close to what you need. Try e-mailing your dimensions, or maybe they already have a listing, I didn't see any kind of catalog on their website, so I guess you have to ask.[A href='http://www.knfilters.com']http://www.knfilters.com[/a]

I am not aware of any problems with them but it sounds like the fitment of the pre filter needs to be addressed. Sometimes soaking it in water will help "fluff" it up a bit to help make a better seal - make sure to rinse thoughly and distribute a "little" oil thoughout. Also severe conditions may require severe solutions. I have one customer that cleans the air filter almost every cutting due to extremly dusty conditions. Perhaps a homemade delector can help shield dirt entry away from the intake area.

Joe, "Blum, Richard" answered my request for a K & N filter to fit a Kohler OHC. He ask me to send him the Kohler part number plus the dimensions of the stock filter. I haven't done it yet as I need to measure the filter and get the Kohler P.N. I agree with you. The stock foam prefilter is a sorry piece. Its too small and probably impossible to fit properly. Just crunching leaves with the mower the engine picks up an extreme amount of junk in the air filter. I just hope the hole in the filter, to reach the idle speed screw, is sealed with the rubber grommet. Please let me know if you find a K & N, or other similar brand, that fits before I do. I feel Simplicity or Kohler need to address the problem and offer a warranty fix and/or retrofit correction. Maybe one of our dealer members could help with this. Thanks, Roy "Blum, Richard"
