How many of you oil the pre filter on your air filter? My AC 710 manual says not to oil the prefilter while the package the new Kohler replacement filter comes in says to oil the prefilter???????? Do you think it matters??

On the foam prefilter you should use 30wt oil on it and squeeze out any excess. Just what I have always done. Fred Wood

Yes, you should oil the pre-filter. It is the oil in the foam that traps dirt since the dirt will stick to the oiled surface. It should be saturated in oil and the excess squeezed out. It is important that you squeeze it out rather than "wring" it out. Wringing it out ruptures the foam and reduces the efficiency. When it's dirty, wash it in hot, soapy water. Do not use gasoline or any solvent. These deteriorate the foam. After washing, rinse, squeeze (again, do not "wring") the water out and allow to dry. To save on mess, I place the filter in a plastic sandwich bag. Add oil and squeeze to distribute the oil throughout the foam. I then roll it out in a clean shop rag once or twice to take up the excess oil. Pat

After washing dirty pre filters I sqeeze them in a clean towel to soak up the water out of them. When oiling them I wipe oil on my hands or rubber gloves preferrably and gently rub the oil into the foam then put the foam in a paper towel and sqeeze the excess off soaking it up in the paper towel.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
