The chase

All was fun today while my 4 year old, Ben, was following momma while she mowed the front yard. I watched for awhile then snapped this pic. He was being good so I went about putzing around in the garage. A short time later I saw my pickup truck move slightly out of the corner of my eye. Ben ran into the back of it. Fortunately no damage done to the truck or the Deutz I have on ebay right now. Thought I was home free but momma saw the incident too. She wasn't very happy with me. Brent, I notice you're pulling a tow behind mower. How do you like it, and do you run a belly mower on the tractor too? Steve

Hi Steve. It is a Swisher trail mower. 13 hp briggs and 60" deck. I am pretty happy with it, although the engine doesn't seem to have the power it should. The trail mower will bog down in thick tall grass when the tractor will not, but my tractors are all 16 hp with 48" decks and hydro's. I offset the trail mower to the right and overlap the decks about 3". That gives me a 8' 6" swath. Takes a little getting use to. You have to make all left turns to keep from missing patches. Also can be a pain if you have a lot of stuff to mow around. Once you get a pattern worked out it saves a lot of time. It used to take me about 5 hours to mow 4.5 acres. Now it is from 2.5-3 hours depending on how I feel about trimming and how tall the grass is. I liked the hitch on the Swishers alot better than on the Haban/Agri-fabs when I was shopping a couple years ago. Cost me $1299 plus tax then, now they are about $1400 I think. Brent

Your going to sell your son's tractor? I have Charlies waiting for him when his feet will reach the pedals. He rides in my lap now, except when Im mowing. ddh

I have 3 more Soveriegn sized for him to drive - all hydro's - plus a go-cart. That little Deutz doesn't have a deck and is too lightweight to pull the trail mower up the hill in the back yard without spinning out. I thought about keeping it just for the kids but didn't want them to get used to it and be afraid or unwilling to drive and eventually mow with the bigger tractors, plus I need the room and the $.
