616 charging

The Rectifier/Regultor on my AC 616 has four wires coming from it. The two yellow wires go to the alternator and the red eventually goes to the battery.My question is: What is the purpose of the blue wire (the fourth wire) that comes from the rectifier/regulator and goes to the coil? Todd
