Is a shuttle drive transmission as good as the hydrostatic one???I currently have a 7016 h that is in poor condition, but I just ran across a 7016s in good condition with a 42" blower and a 48" deck for $500.00. Is this worth pursuing or am I better off fixing up my 7016h tractor??? thanks, Doug

For the price the tractor seems like it's worth $500. In a word; NO! the hydro is a better piece than the shuttle In My Humble Opinion of course!Check to make sure the shuttle goes from forward to reverse with no problems, the trans. dosen't grind gears while shifting AND in reverse it dosen't sound like a cement mixer! Just a few things to look for before buying the shuttle.Parts to fix the shuttle's reverser are getting hard to get and if they can be gotten are expensive. Good Luck in your endeavor! dlc

My experience with the shuttle transmission is not good, although some people praise them! When it worked I didnt like it as you went in reverse at the exact same speed as you were going forward, which I considered not only very annoying but unsafe! I bought the 712S at auction and it didnt work too bad the first year, but I had to adjust it every time I used it. Finally, I couldnt get it to go into reverse any longer. The plantary gears were bad and the parts alone to fix it amounted to over $400(which is more than what I paid for the tractor). I decided that was too much money to spend on a tractor which I didnt like anyway so I parted it out. My advice would be not to buy the shuttle unless you plan on parting it out or replacing the trans with a hydro. Keep in mind that the seat deck is about an inch shorter on the shuttle and will not work over a hydro unless you re-weld the bracket to the frame.

I sold my Sim. 7016 shuttle just this past week to which I only owned it for about a month at that. Myself like Les didn't care for it even though the tractor was in great shape, I just couldn't get the hang of using the shuttle compared to my other tractors with either the standard 3 speed trans or the hydro. I do love the hydro's for sure-my advise for what it is worth do as the other suggest either part it or dump it. Wait a minute- did I say dump it-since when you we dump our Sim. tractors "opps" I meant get rid of it a.s.a.p.-Best to all >>->happyjack<-<<

Hey Les, are you sure about the seat deck height being different? I have a '77 7013s which is now the equivelant of a 7016h. I used a '75 A-C 716 as a parts tractor. I used everything from the bevel gear box back with my original seat deck with no problems. Does anyone out there have any other input? AdamF

I have 5 tractors. from a 1970 ACHB212 to 1974 AC712H and a 1974 3414S Baron with shuttle. All 5 tractors have the same seat deck. Same distance from bevel gear box to seat deck mount. I think the older 'B' models were shorter. MS

The seat deck off of the 712S is definatly shorter, about an inch, than the 7119 hydro, it wont click down. I have seen the same thing comparing a B series w/o variable speed to a B series with variable speed. The variable speed tractors and I believe the hydros are about an inch longer than the gear drives and the shuttles. I havnt tried it on the 7016 hydro yet. I saw a B-110 converted from variable drive to straight drive and they cut and re-welded the angle iron on the frame to keep the same seat deck.

Well they say you learn something every day?I also have never had a problem with a seat pan not fitting another type of trans. assy. either! But maybe I never switched one like Les did?Dunno, but if I had a "S" trac.it would be parted out anyway,so it wouldn't matter! dlc
