More ?? About AC Paint Colors

Still don't have the answers on correct paint numbers for the ACs, only more questions: 1) Were the Simplicity manufactured "B-series" (through B-10s, I think) a different shade of yellow than the yellow Lexington-manufactured AC's in the B-series (110, 112, 207, 208, 210, 212)? At least in the pictures, the earlier B-series appear to be a lighter yellow, while the later ones have a "golden yellow" undertone... I also think Del Allen mentioned two shades of yellow in a post long ago.... 2) Were the wheels and trim actually an off-white (AC Cream) on these old tractors also, instead of white? If so, when did this change? Was it in conjunction with the Lexington plant also? My B-210 seems to have "white, white" wheels but they're so beat up, you can't tell.... Does anyone have "definitive answers" or even more clues?

Hi Kent, I had the luck to see a "Bumble bee"-12 at Mark's place of bussiness last spring. This tractor was in mint unrestored- and a 1 owner tractor. From what I remember the yellow did have somewhat of a gold undertone to it not a true yellow like the newer ones. The white was a shade toward off white not a bright white or just plain off white in color. Check in the gallery and look at James Catlin's b-1 because he had that yellow paint matched by computor for his tractor. However James chose to paint the white the brighter shade as he liked the looks of it better. Just a suggestion but someone might try contacting James to see what he has to say about it as he did put alot of work in getting the yellow the write shade. Now the picture that Mark supplied for us is not a true guide not only because of its age but the paper that it was printed on "BUT" its fairly close if again my memorey is correct. Now if only I could of known that the gentleman was going off his Bumble Bee-12 to Mark's partner I would be the proud owner of it today-Bumble Bee's on it and all. Hope this helps a little. Best to you Kent >>->happyjack<-<<

Kent, I just got finished putting a coat of paint on my 8.5" AC B112 rims, and since I removed the rubber to do this, I can tell you that the original paint color that was applied to the inside of the rims was definetly a cream shade of white. Bob Winters recommended a cream paint sold by Ace hardware store, and that's what I used to paint my rims. I'd say the color is slightly darker than the original but not a bad match at all. I'm happy with it. The 10.5 Simp 3112 rims are a brighter white, but I think they might have originally been grey. Greg

Kent, My "Bumble Bee B-12 still has the original paint on the frame and it is a golden yellow. In the 70s I repainted the hood and seat pan with Rustolem International Yellow which was a perfect match but no longer made. The wheels and dash are an off white or cream as mention in the other responses. My B112 seems to be a lighter yellow than the old B12 although I can't swear that it's original paint on the B112. I perfer the goldish yellow on the old B12 so would use that on the B112 when repainting it also. Tim

As Greg said,an excellent way to find out the true color of the rims is to de-mount a tire to check it out. With computer color matching technology of today, it's a snap to match any shade exactly! dlc
