Guest Posted December 1, 1999 I just bought a AC 14 hp Kohler tractor with geer drive. It must have been repainted on sides, as no mod. # is on it anywhere. What is the differance so I can tell? Alan
BruceH 7 Posted December 1, 1999 If you're sure it is the original 14 hp engine, it is an AC 314 I think. I don't think there was a 14 hp model in the 400 Series tractor. Whatever it is, I've had a 314 for over 20 years and have been very pleased with the machine. Enjoy it!
Kent 435 Posted December 1, 1999 Alan, Welcome to the club. I have to agree with Bruce -- I haven't ever heard of a 414, though I'm certainly no expert on these unique tractors... You say it has gear drive, is it a Varidrive, with 7 speed ranges in each of 3 gears, selectable by a lever on the right side of the steering wheel? If so, it's definitely a 314, according to the specs. The 300 series came with either the Varidrive or hydro.... The 400 series had either the standard 3-speed,the 4-speed shuttle drive, or a hydro (no Varidrive).... There should be a tag or label on it somewhere that lists the MFR #, if it hasn't been removed or destroyed. With the MFR #, you can pinpoint it in the X-reference table.... Hopefully someone else can step in and add their real-world experience with these tractors to help you pin it down.... Again, welcome. Kent
dlcentral 1 Posted December 2, 1999 Look for a tag that says;"Outdoor Products" that's definately a good clue as to it being a 300/400 ser.AC Although I do believe I read here some B units were made in KY. also? But for sure no B models or 700 models had 14 HP'S in them, so that narrows it down and as Bruce stated, who knows more about these tracs. than I, or most others do,,I would concur it's a 300 ser. AC Good Luck with it! dlc
